December Meeting

Photos by Tom Henderson and Gary Cathey

The December meeting had a good crowd on hand. Rick started things out and VP of Oktoberfest, Jason Randall, talked about the great Oktoberfest and presented a check to Laurie Schwartz from A Childs Place for $25,000 and another $25,000 check to Shannon Hinson from the local chapter of The National MS Society. These are our charity gifts from the proceeds from Oktoberfest. We are so glad to help these wonderful charity's. There was a competition for Belgian and French Ales for the AHA Club Only event and David Jones came away as the winner. Elections were also held  and the 2009 officers are:

Michael Shomate

Josh Hartmann

Michael got into brewing in August 2007 because he liked good microbrews and was looking for a hobby to get into. He did an internet search on brewing and found the CBM site and emailed Rick Benfield who was VP of Recruitment at the time and got info on how to join. He came to a meeting in September 2007 and joined. His favorite commercial beer is an Ommegong Abbey and his favorite style to brew is a Belgian Dubbel. Mike was elected as 2009 VP of Communication at the December meeting.

Josh started brewing in 1997 when he lived in Utah. Homebrewing was a necessity for him at that time because beer was hard to find in Utah. He then stopped brewing for a number of years but picked it back up and wants to go to all grain brewing in the near future. He has lived in Charlotte for about 8 years and found out about the club at the Oktoberfest. His wife got him a membership to the club for his Birthday.  His favorite commercial beer is a Pike 5X Stout from Seattle and his favorite style to homebrew is an IPA

Welcome Josh !
